What is Botox?
BOTOX has become one of the most popular cosmetic treatments for the face. BOTOX and DYSPORT are neuromodulators that can dramatically reduce facial lines caused by overactive muscles. They are highly safe and effective non-surgical procedures, with minimal side effects. BOTOX is derived from bacteria that have been purified for use in humans.
BOTOX weakens the muscle and is used to treat “frown lines” which are sometimes called “worry lines” or “scowl lines”. These are the lines in the forehead seen between the eyes and on the bridge of the nose.
BOTOX can also be used for “raising the arch of the eyebrows, and treating“crow’s feet” and forehead wrinkles.
Dr Joseph also uses Botox to treat the “gummy smile”, migraine headaches, bruxism, (tooth grinding), TMJ and some facial pain syndromes. BOTOX is now for more than just treating wrinkles. For example, the face can be “sculpted” by raising or lowering eyebrows to enhance your look. BOTOX and DYSPORT treatments are excellent to compliment procedures for overall facial rejuvenation. They can be used alone or in combination with facial fillers and skin care home treatments to laser resurfacing. The number of applications is ever increasing.
Dr Joseph has extensive experience with Botox, having used it since 1998. Many patients choose our practice for the fact that Dr Joseph performs all the injections. Injectable cosmetic treatments such as Botox, Dysport, Restylane, Juvederm, Voluma and Volbella are a large part of our practice, and make people look and feel better without invasive surgery. This is a great option for those patients who do not want or need surgery.

Is Botox safe?
BOTOX Onabotulinum toxin, and DYSPORT Abobotulinum toxin are a naturally occurring purified proteins that block the muscles from contracting. They only affect the area where they are placed. Botox® Cosmetic or Dysport injections can reduce the signs of aging by reducing the muscle activity and wrinkles of the eyebrow and forehead. The reduction of frown lines is especially effective. BOTOX has been used safely for over 20 years and has been FDA approved for facial wrinkles since 2002.
Why use Botox or Dysport?
Dynamic facial wrinkles are caused by contractions of the muscles of the face every time you express emotions. The more expressive you are, the deeper these wrinkles and lines are likely to be. These lines may be misinterpreted as anger, anxiety, fatigue and, of course, aging. Fillers and surgical procedures such as brow-lift and eyelid lift can tighten the skin and muscles around these lines, but do not address the underlying muscle pull, which eventually deepens the facial wrinkles. So for dynamic facial lines from overactive muscles of the upper face, BOTOX or DYSPORT is usually the best treatment.
How are Botox and Dysport Given?
The treatment takes 10 minutes and we use the tiniest needles available therefore Botox and Dysport treatments typically have minimal discomfort. The number of injections varies with the degree of wrinkling. You may return to normal activities immediately. Many patients receive BOTOX Cosmetic injections on their lunch hour and return to work. The effects of BOTOX Cosmetic are noticeable within 5-7 days and the effect lasts an average of 3-4 months. Patients may wish to repeat BOTOX or DYSPORT treatments when it fully wears off. However, if the face is re-treated as soon as the muscles start to move, the facial muscles never regain their “memory. Some evidence shows that after several repeated injections, the effects may last longer.
